Barbara Cassidy is a Calgary artist painting in oil in an Impressionistic style. Raised in a family that enjoyed art, she began painting in school and has taken lessons throughout the years. She creates bright, colorful landscapes using bold palette knife strokes to express texture and impasto.  She enjoys painting both rural and urban subject matter in bright colors.

Barbara likes to use splashes of paint in the foreground of a painting to depict flowers or vegetation to the viewer. Often the background is rendered with a soft diffused light over far away foothills or mountains.

This gives her work a loose more Impressionist feel and often represents the softness of the light on a particular day. She is always trying a variety of subject matter to keep painting interesting. Fortunately, the beauty of Calgary and Southern Alberta provide excellent inspiration for her paintings.
