High Alpine Lake

Todd Lachance, “High Alpine Lake”, Oil on Linen Panel, 8″ x 10″, Framed

b. 1969
Todd is a representational fine artist, residing in Calgary, Alberta. Art has always been part of his life. Primarily, Todd focused the first part of his artist journey on drawing portraits, figures and cartooning. He began painting in his early twenties at ACAD while also pursuing another passion, speed skating. He yearned for traditional fundamentals of fine art that were not offered at the school. He now finds education through mentorship, first-hand study of master paintings, and experience in the field.
Spending a lot of time outdoors and immersing himself in the geography of his subject, Todd tries to work in natural settings and from life as much as possible. This is reflected in his artwork. In the studio, larger paintings are created from smaller outdoor sketches. He has been inspired by many who have gone before him. Tom Thomson, John Singer Sargent and Anders Zorn are three who come to mind. Like his predecessors, he is fascinated with light and colour and how it affects our world. This is what he paints.
His interests include landscape, figure and portrait.
In 2022, Todd created Plein Air MD Ltd., a non-profit organization which aims to promote well-being through the power of nature and art. The project is open to emergency first responders (including police and fire departments, EMT’s and hospital staff), the military and their families. The goal of the initiative is to provide some peace to the participants, who are coping with high levels of stress and/or PTSD, while the nature and the art provide the therapy.
Todd is currently represented by Mountain Galleries in Banff, Jasper and Whistler.
